Errors and Omissions Insurance
Errors and omissions insurance, usually called E&O, covers a production against certain legal claims arising from the content of the film — for example, alleged copyright or trademark infringement, defamation, invasion of privacy, or misuse of a name or likeness.
Distributors and broadcasters commonly require an E&O policy as part of delivery before they'll release a film. To issue a policy, carriers typically review the project's chain of title, clearances for music and other licensed material, and releases for people and locations.
For independent producers, clean documentation from development onward makes E&O easier and cheaper to obtain. This is general information; production insurance questions belong with a qualified broker or attorney.
